Introduction
Medical Services Report issued by the Ortskommandantur (Local Army HQs) in Mariampol (Lithuania) on 5 April 1942. The report notes the need to reinforce “the Jewish graves at the edge of the barracks grounds with an additional covering of earth, because runoff from precipitation and flooding (the graves are located directly on the bank of the Sesupe River and are covered only by a 50 cm layer of earth) have washed away the covering layer and exposed the corpses”.

1) Das Überhandnehmen von venerischen Erkrankungen bei Wehrmachtsangehörigen und auch bei der Zivilbevölkerung hat mich veranlasst, die Ausgabe der von der Wehrmacht für die lit. Ärzte zur Verfügung gestellten Medikamente zu sperren, solange das Übel nicht an der Wurzel gepackt wird. Zu diesem Zwecke habe ich heute mit nach Rücksprache mit dem Standortarzt in Kaunas erstmalig einen Transport von 16 venerischen Frauen und Männern in das Hospital für Geschlechtskrankheiten einliefern lassen. Die so begonnene Säuberungsaktion wird fortgesetzt. Erst dann wird mit der Ausgabe der für die Sanierung der Litauer bestimmten Medikamente begonnen.
2) San.-Gefr. Dietrich unterhält eine Ortskrankenstube gegenüber dem Kreiskrankenhaus. Bade- und Entlausungsmöglichkeiten sind hier vorhanden.
3) Die geforderten hygienischen Massnahmen sind beachtet und werden laufend überwacht.

Zur Vermeidung einer solchen Gefahr ist es notwendig, die Judengräber am Rande des Kasernengeländes erneut mit einer Erdschüttung zu vesehen, weil einmal durch das Abfliessen der Niederschläge und zum andern durch das Hochwasser (die Gräber befinden sich unmittelbar am Flussufer der Sesupe und sind nur mit einer 50 cm Erdschicht überdeckt) die Deckschicht ausgewaschen und die Leichen freigelegt werden.
Die hierzu erforderlichen vorbeugenden Arbeiten werden durch die eigenen Arbeitskräfte der Ortskommandantur durchgeführt.

1.) The increasing spread of venereal diseases among members of the Wehrmacht and also among the civilian population has prompted me to suspend the distribution of the medications made available by the Wehrmacht for Lithuanian doctors until the problem is addressed at its root. For this purpose, after consultation with the garrison physician in Kaunas, I have today, for the first time, arranged for a transport of 16 venereal women and men to be admitted to the hospital for sexually transmitted diseases. The cleansing operation thus initiated will be continued. Only then will the distribution of the medications intended for the treatment of Lithuanians begin.
2.) Medical orderly Dietrich maintains a local infirmary opposite the district hospital. Bathing and delousing facilities are available there.
3.) The required hygienic measures are being observed and are continuously monitored.
4.) Epidemic typhus in 11 cases

The necessary preventive work will be carried out by the labor forces of the local command.
