Introduction
On October 27, 1942, Heinrich Himmler issued an order to Hans-Adolf Prützmann, the Higher SS and Police Leader in Ukraine, commanding to “immediately clear and annihilate the Ghetto in Pinsk”. The only exemption was to be 1,000 Jewish forced laborers, who were to be handed over to the Wehrmacht. However, if their secure confinement could not be guaranteed, they too were to be “annihilated.”

Der Wehrmachtsführungsstab teilt mir mit, daß die Strecke Brest–Gomel immer mehr durch Bandenüberfälle leidet und dadurch der Nachschub für die kämpfende Truppe in Frage gestellt wird.
Auf Grund der mir vorliegenden Meldungen ist das Ghetto in Pinsk als Zentrale der gesamten Bandenbewegung in den Pripjet-Sümpfen anzusehen.
Ich befehle Ihnen daher, trotz Bestehen wirtschaftlicher Bedenken, das Ghetto in Pinsk sofort auszuheben und zu vernichten. 1000 männliche Arbeitskräfte sind, falls es die Aktion erlaubt, sicherzustellen und der Wehrmacht für die Fabrikation der Holzhütten zu überstellen. Die Arbeit dieser 1000 Arbeitskräfte darf jedoch nur in einem geschlossenen und sehr bewachten Lager stattfinden. Falls diese Bewachung nicht garantiert ist, sind auch diese 1000 zu vernichten.

The Wehrmacht High Command informs me that the Brest–Gomel route is increasingly suffering from bandit attacks and that, as a result, the supply lines for the fighting troops are being jeopardized.
Based on the reports available to me, the Ghetto in Pinsk is to be regarded as the center of the entire bandit movement in the Pripet Marshes.
I therefore order you, despite economic concerns, to immediately clear and annihilate the Ghetto in Pinsk. 1,000 male laborers are, if the operation permits, to be secured and transferred to the Wehrmacht for the construction of wooden huts. However, the work of these 1,000 laborers must take place only in a closed and heavily guarded camp. If such guarding cannot be guaranteed, these 1,000 are also to be annihilated.
